Israeli Airport Security - it's the only way to fly!

Hey. Just a short intro and hello from Yishai at Digital Irony. I'll be posting here at DoubleTapper from time to time. I'm also in Israel, love guns, technology, and freedom. Enjoy!

I'm sure you've read the countless previous articles extolling the virtues of the Israeli method of airport security (you know, find the bad guys, not the bad stuff). This well-written one from the Daily Mail is another of those articles, but it is updated with some new facts, introduces a funky new technology concept, and includes one startling tidbit which shocked me:
How many times in the history of aviation have the scanners and security procedures that currently cause such huge anger and inconvenience actually found explosives in baggage or on a passenger? ...

The answer, shockingly, is zero.
Case in point? Last week a dude forgot to take his loaded .40 cal out of his carry-on bag, and remembered this slight oversight only halfway into his flight. Dude.

And if that weren't enough, apparently this is normal.

Farid Seif, a Houston businessman, usually carries the weapon around for protection. He didn't realize he had kept the Glock in his carry-on computer bag until he was mid-flight. Once he landed, he immediately reported the incident (and was stunned he was able to get it on board without hassle). That something like this happened should be scary in itself, but authorities tell ABC News says that that sort of incident isn't exactly uncommon:

Experts say every year since the September 11 attacks, federal agencies have conducted random, covert tests of airport security.

A person briefed on the latest tests tells ABC News the failure rate approaches 70 percent at some major airports. Two weeks ago, TSA's new director said every test gun, bomb part or knife got past screeners at some airports.

Wait, what?! Every test weapon got through a few security checkpoints? And other major airports missed 70% of them? So, some major airports (LAX? ORD? JFK?) are getting a 30% on their test scores, but some airports are even getting 0%, i.e., catching nothing.

And lastly, why, in the name of the Lord above, is the TSA director publicly touting their own incompetence?
