A constitutional amendment would enable Czechs to acquire and possess a gun for security purposes. This is a partial response to the proposed EU Firearms Directive. EURACTIV Czech Republic reports. Czech minister wants to guarantee the right to keep and bear arms "Interesting news from the Czech Republic. Czech law currently does require gun owners to be licensed - however, that license also serves as a license to carry. Licenses are "shall issue", meaning that they can only be denied for specific cause and that sane, law abiding Czechs have a right to a permit." There are over 658,235 permits outstanding out of approximately 5 Million households - meaning that guns are in 13% of Czech households. Interestingly foreigners from NATO countries have the same "shall issue" rights as Czech citizens.
