It means nothing, we are talking about two ships, hardly an aggressive maneuver. American naval forces in the area make the two ships irrelevant. Symbolic it is, importance in the Great Game is none at all.
It's always reassuring when an expert in anti proliferation and middle eastern affairs provides such a well supported hypothesis.

It's about the force projection and influence that Iran is claiming by sending those ships where no Iranian ship has gone since 1979. Israel has to decide whether to let Iran act with impunity and indirectly threaten Israel by actively supporting our sworn enemies (Hizbollah and Hamas).
