Bielski Partisan Survivor Database

As you all know from my previous posts on the Bielski Brothers, after the Bielski Otriad (partisan brigade) was liberated on July 9, 1944, over 1250 men, women and children left the forest to rebuild their lives. Scholars and survivors of the group estimate that over 10,000 people are alive today because of the Bielski brothers.

There is a new registry gathering information regarding survivors of the Bielski partisans.

The information recorded there will assist in the collecting of survivor and second-generation testimony, provide help for those doing genealogical research and provide researchers with a more accurate count of the groups survivors and their descendants.

Registration is voluntary and family members may register names of survivors posthumously.

Please forward this to any holocaust survivors and their descendants you know that are affiliated with the Bielski Brothers.

Zwick underplays the havoc the Bielskis caused to Germans, Bellarussian and Polish enemies.

Zus had 67 documented personal kills which are broken down in The Bielski Brothers by Peter Duffy.
Overall the Ostriad (Bielski Brigade) had almost 400 kills.

Zus's defiance was brutal without remorse as his mother, father, two brothers, wife and daughter were murdered. It never dawned on him if his response was disproportionate.

Now if he, or Tuvia, were in charge, they would have cemented political alliances and not let their charges be fired upon without extracting total surrender. They will only understand the stick.

Great movie It was comforting to see Jews fighting back nazis soldiers,killing them in droves Should our ancestors have behaved like Bielski fighting brigade, genocide would have NEVER ocurred .
