Godspeed Major General Israel Tal

Israel Tal, a decorated war hero and the creator of Israel's renowned "Merkava" tank, died in Rehovot Israel on Wednesday. He was age 86.

Born in the small Zionist settlement of Beer Tuvia in Palestine in 1924, General Tal, also known as Talik, fought in the British Army’s Jewish Brigade as a teen in World War II, later he helped lay the foundations of the IDF and held a series of important posts in the course of an illustrious military career, leaving the IDF as deputy chief of staff.   He will be laid to rest on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, Chagit, a daughter, Pnina; a son, Yair; and several grandchildren.

He is considered one of the best five armor commanders in history, alongside U.S. Gen. George S. Patton, Gen. Creighton Abrams, German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and Israeli Maj. Gen. Moshe Peled, according to the Patton Museum in Fort Knox Kentucky, where he is commemorated.

Tal oversaw the design of the Merkava tank _ Hebrew for "chariot" _ which is widely seen as one of the best Tanks of its time. The Merkava Tank was created to ensure the safety of its crew by placing the engine at the front, allowing crew and medics to enter and exit from behind, even under fire.

The Merkava Tank was also developed for Israeli terrain, particularly specializing in long-range fire, according to the Armor Museum. The Merkava Tank entered combat in the 1980s.

Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, the forum of the general staff, senior commanders, regular and reserve soldiers all saluted Tal for his work, legacy, and contribution to the security of Israel over the many years.

"The image of a legendary warrior and commander, who helped lay the foundations of the IDF armored corp and developed the Merkava tank, one of the world's best tanks, has left us this morning," Ashkenazi said. "Talik, as everyone called him, belonged to the founding generation of the IDF, in which the security of the state of Israel, protecting its borders and the peace of its citizens was his objective from the beginning of his lifetime to his last day," explained the chief of staff. "Talik wrote the golden pages of the magnificent, but bloody, history of Israeli security. His personal and unique contribution to the defense of Israel cannot be measured. May his memory be blessed."

Tal, known to foreign experts as "Mr. Armor," was the seventh commander of the IDF armored corps between the years of 1964 and 1969.

Tal's mastery of long-range tank fire tactics are widely seen as key to the Israeli break through of the Egyptian Suez Canal on the Sinai peninsula during the 1967 Six Day war where he served as an armored division commander. In 1972, he was called to service by then chief of general staff David Elazar to serve as head of the military operations branch and as deputy chief of staff. He became the commander of the southern front during the surprise Egyptian and Syrian attack against in the 1973 Yom Kippur war. In 1974, he finished his military service and served as a security consultant to Shimon Peres. In 1978, Tal returned to service and developed a new organizational plan, the establishment of a field forces command.

Tal was named one of the top five armored commanders in history at The Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor in Fort Knox, Kentucky, along with IDF Maj.-Gen. Moshe Peled, US General George S. Patton, US Gen. Creighton Abrams and German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Warsaw Poland

I'm in Warsaw Poland and today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day

In the frigid negative temperatures I walked through the streets of Warsaw to honor the Jews that were murdered here by the Nazi's.

I stopped off at 18 Mila street to remember Mordechai Anielewicz, and the ZOB.

Then I walked up Mila Street to Zamenhofa and turned right and headed towards Mordechai Anielewicz street and  the Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

The Memorial is huge and  made from bronze and granite ordered by Hitler to be used to build a monument honoring Germany’s victory.  Instead it was used by Natan Rappaport to create this monument honoring the Jewish heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

Notice the ice crystals on my neck warmer and snow in the picture.
It's currently about 70 Degrees warmer in Israel then in Poland.

I'll try to get some pictures in the daylight tomorrow.

Civilians and Police Shoot and Kill Another Bulldozer Terrorist

تنسيق-الكليات-لعام سكس نيك كس

The Bulldozer terrorist plowed into a police car and rammed into a bus, before he was shot by police and a taxi driver at the scene. He later died of his wounds.

The incident took place a little after 1 P.M. Thursday near the popular Malkha shopping mall, on Menachem Begin Boulevard, in southern Jerusalem.

Police are saying that an open copy of the Koran was found in the bulldozer after the attack.

Witnesses described a harrowing site of the Bulldozer speeding along the highway, dragging the police car and sending it flying into the air.

The civilian who shot the terrorist, Dor a Taxi Driver, told Israel Radio that, “I saw the police car fly into the air. He [the Terrorist] flipped it over twice, then continued dragging it toward a bus that was stuck in traffic,” he said. He told the radio he fired four shots at the Terrorist, wounding him. “Then a policeman came with his M-16 and finished him off finally,” he said.

Another Civilian seen shooting the Terrorist is a Rabbi at Horev Yeshiva.

News Report Translated to English

Elad Ben-Nun, a Volunteer Auxiliary Policeman who shot the terrorist stated, “We got out of the squad car and moved towards the terrorist. We were about six yards away when I fired at the driver through the window.

The driver keeled over to the left and we hurried to the other side of the tractor. I saw him try to get up. I fired several more rounds until he wasn’t moving anymore.”

Daniel Housliech, the Police Officer riding in the car with Ben-Nun told the press, “We arrived at the scene by way of Golomb Street. We could see the tractor to our left. It was hammering the police car with its shovel and then it tried to flip it over.

“We pulled over and ran to the scene. This was clearly a terror attack and not the scene of an accident. I pulled my gun… and since I am somewhat of a marksman, I hit him immediately.

Terrorist Killed by IDF Serviceman in Jerusalem

Vehicular Terrorist was neutralized while attempting to murder a crowd of people in Jerusalem yesterday evening.

The Terrorist rammed his new black BMW into a large crowd of pedestrians shortly before 11:00 p.m. next to the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem's Old City. The Terrorist was shot dead by an IDF Officer who happened to be on a walking tour in the area.

1st Lieutenant Elad Amar who was standing on an island between lanes on the road, just barely managed to avoid being run over, then cocked his M4 rifle and shot the terrorist dead. Lt. Amar served in the Paratrooper unit commanded by David Shapira.

Most of the 23 victims, one of whom is in serious condition, were IDF soldiers who had gone to the Old City to participate in the nighttime prayers traditionally recited before Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year Holiday that starts next week.
