Faces - Israeli Victims of Terror

Today is Yom Hazikaron, Israeli Memorial Day. Instead of barbecue picnics, it is a very somber day here, where we remember all the fallen soldiers and security forces as well as victims of terror. I made this horribly sad video many years ago and I'd like to share it with you today.

I wrote this when I uploaded this video in 2006:

I made this video three years ago in 2003, when we were fighting against suicide bombings and shootings and lynches. This video shows faces of two years worth of those Israelis killed by palestinian terrorism. Oh, and turn your speakers on. I cry each time I watch it.

May They Be the Last

May They Be the Last
by A Soldier's Mother:

The candle burns slowly down. In a few hours, another siren and more ceremonies.

Last night, a mother walked slowly up onto the stage and lit the torch. A father climbed the steps with a brother and together, their voices cracking with sorrow, they said the mourner's prayer (Kaddish). Young people, who themselves will be soldiers in another few years, sang sad songs or read letters soldiers had written before their deaths.

It was awful. It was painful. It was as it should be.

A young man came up and read a letter from a soldier to Galit, his fiancée. I had heard the letter before and yet each time it breaks the heart. He tells her the operation will take place soon and if she has this letter, it means the worst has happened. He begs her to go on with her life and tells her that he needs to go on this operation. There is nothing he wanted more, he wrote, than to have a life with her, to build a home and have children...except to go on this operation.

He talks of the threats people in Israel live with, the terror and the need to stop it. I will stop it, he writes to her in that last letter. On and on, the tears flow as you listen.

And in my mind, the one thought, "Please God, please, make them the last. Make them the last." I don't want to sit there on the grass next year amid tens of thousands of my neighbors. I don't want to listen to the poems and sad songs, the last letters, the father saying Kaddish for his son.

I don't want to...and I know I will. It is all we can do for them, after all they did for us.

May God bless their memory and may their families find comfort in knowing that all that we have here is because of all they have lost.

Israel's Memorial Day

Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu vowed during Memorial Day ceremonies today that the State of Israel would never compromise on security.

“Today I say to all of you, bereaved families and citizens of Israel... We will never lose the strength to defend ourselves. Our hands are stretched out for peace, but our enemies should make no mistake: We will never compromise on our security.”

A total of 22,570 men and women have died defending the Land of Israel since 1860, the year that the first Jewish settlers left the secure walls of Jerusalem to build new Jewish neighborhoods. Since the last Memorial Day,Ten IDF Servicemen have been killed and 17 civilians became victims of terrorist attacks since last Memorial Day.

A total of 1,723 people have been murdered by Arab terrorists since the Jewish State was re-established in 1948.Israel's Memorial day ends tonight as Israel's Independence day begins.

Memorial Day in Israel: Mourn, Comfort and Remember

The air-raid siren's blare found me as I was driving home on the mountain roads of the Shomron.

I pulled over to the side of the road, turned on the car's hazard lights, got out and stood next to my car under the dark sky. Other cars also stopped, their driver's got out, and we stood silently listening to the siren.

So what do you think about during the siren? Once upon a time, I used to recite Psalms to myself to honor the memory of the IDF soldiers who fell defending Israel. Yet the one minute siren is so short, many more thoughts last night reverberated in my head. More Here, Hattip Jameel.

Memorial Day at the IDF Armour Corps Museum with Jewish Motorcyclists from around the world

Jewish Bikers from around the world are here in Israel.

They shipped their motorcycles, and came to tour Israel.

They will ride around the country in a landmark ride to commemorate the Holocaust, celebrate Israel's 60th anniversary and express support for the Jewish homeland. The idea for this trip was dreamt up at a Ride to Remember (R2R) in 2005, when members of various worldwide Jewish motorcycle clubs rode to the grand opening of the Holocaust museum in Washington DC.

Since that ride, the R2R has become an annual event that takes riders to various landmarks around the US to commemorate and educate about the Holocaust, and represent the Jewish people as free and strong.

As part of their tour, Jewish Bikers visited the Latrun Armor Corps Museum on Israel's Memorial Day.

Israeli Bikers joined the tour as well. Being motorcycle addict, I just had to be there.

My friend and I met up with the convoy of Harleys, Hondas, Yamahas and others, on the Highway and rode to Latrun. At the Armor Corps Museum there are tanks , antique and modern weapons, and every armored and tracked vehicle ever used by the IDF on display. We were given the VIP treatment with our very own IDF Armor Corps tour guides.

We got to see, and touch all of the equipment from huge Merkava tanks to various small arms. I even got to check out the new RPG7.
