The Festival of Sukkot

Sukkot begins tomorrow night. The Festival of Sukkot is celebrated for 7 days here in Israel. During Sukkot we move from our permanent homes into temporary shelters that signify the way the Jews lived during the 40 years of wandering in the desert after the Exodus. Sukkot is translated as Feast of Booths or Feast of Tabernacles in English.

The Sukkah (booth) that we build today becomes our home for the weeklong festival. All meals are eaten in a Sukkah so even restaurants put up sukkahs.

In addition to the Sukkah itself we recite special prayers throughout the
week, travel all over the country and visit with friends and family.

I will try and take some pictures and post them here. In the meantime here are some from past Sukkot.
